Jumping Window Ornament
SKU:
Working in wood gives each turned ornament it's on distinct individuality, but due to the knots and different textures within the cedar wood it is a difficult wood to turn. Yet, when turned properly the aromatic red cedar has a beautiful range of color highlights that vary from deep purples, reds, chocolates and even creams. To create a light and delicate feel to the window ornaments, as well as room for our inserts, we hollow out the ornament to within an 1/8 inch thickness. We then go through our finishing process that leaves a smooth, glass like protective coating on the ornament, before inserting one of the different hand crafted miniatures The interior carving is out of a soft maple. Morgan Stapp does an original, hand carved, master carving that is approximately 8-10 inches in size. We then use a 3D imaging scan system to capture the image, and a software program to reduce its size and help our machine carve it out. We then go back and hand work each carving to give it that extra detail that a machine just can't reproduce. That way, even though it is a reproduction of a master, it still has the hand touch characteristics.
A Jumping competition is one in which the combination of horse and rider is tested under various conditions over a course of obstacles. It is intended to demonstrate the horse’s freedom, energy, skill, speed and obedience in jumping as well as the rider’s horsemanship. The competitor incurs penalties for exceeding the time allowed, for knocking down or refusing to jump an obstacle. The winner is the competitor who finishes with the least number of penalties.
